CBS Strategy update!

Dear everyone. This is the CBS Students newsletter on the strategy process CBS is going through. The process has now moved into its second phase, as all working groups have reflected on their main themes and hypotheses. The student representatives in each group are thrilled to be a part of the process, and happy to be able to work together with competent groups of other students who help them reflect on the strategies. All groups are working very fast, and everyone – at all levels of CBS – displays a motivating dedication to the process. In the following you can learn more about, how the students perceive the work in the different groups.

Henrik Thorn: Group 1 “CBS' Region and Grand Challenges”

We've started to define what regions we are talking about and looking at possible regions. It would seem, that we have excluded the Baltic region and are turning our sight to a Scandinavian region with a European reach. Grand Challenges are in the process of being defined and we are talking about their impact on the CBS Research community and how we should fond, identify and structure the work with grand challenges. 

Maja Nyvold: Group 2 "Extending Global Engagement”

In the group "Extending Global Engagement" things are going great. We agree with the hypothesis that we got from the management and is working in depth with each of the hypothesis now.
we are primarily focusing on international rankings, strategic alliances and the international students perception of CBS. The next couple of weeks, we are going to do focus group interviews
with students and are going to conduct analysis of the raking systems of universities and also map the different alliances that CBS could possible engage in.

Robin Oliver Bentley: Group 3 “

In group 3 we have initially discussed the hypotheses and agreed to change hypothesis 1 slightly. Currently it lies within the group to define: what core fields are, and whether these are to be connected with CBS as a business school or business university. Can we make a list of prioritised objectives throughout the coming years? What are CBS's core values? What do we do about fields where we are not currently competent? And what about areas where we might be excellent and/or distinct, but are not key areas for a business school? Is it possible to have a CBS with only a few competence areas, but where we are excellent and distinct? If so, what about the rest of the institution? Another important task given to us by the LT is to find out at least two international institutions we would like to be compared to in sence of how we and they imaginatively, effectively, and responsibly improve society through research, and why?

Christian Kongsbak Refshauge: Group 4 “Educating to Transform People” 

In group, 4 we have revised our hypotheses by specifying that a life-long transformative experience should be toward the creation of responsible citizens who contribute to the creating development, and implementation of new ideas and knowledge. Furthermore we think that CBS’s interdisciplinary core competencies should redefine business administration for the future. This is to strengthen the interdisciplinary part of our study program portfolio. We are now looking at other universities to get inspired. Emil Fuglsang: Group 7.2 “Creating Excellent Business Infrastructure”

In group 7.2 we have initially discussed and established definitions and approach to our field of research. We have critically assessed the working hypotheses, but continue using them as basis for our future work. We are now carrying out a lot of interviews with students, administrative and scientific staff-members, in order to find out where CBS administration and communication could be better. In general group 7.2 is working very fast and it is very challenging and educating to be a part of the work.
